Women in Black (DM)
Pure girl power – that's Women in Black (WiB). Sometimes delicate and quiet, sometimes powerful and lively, the 30 or so singers take their audience on a journey to the revue theatres of the Golden 1920s, humorously guiding them through the ideal world of pop songs and evergreens of the 1950s and 1960s, dancing under the glittering disco ball of the 1980s and celebrating international hits from pop and jazz history.
Founded in 2008 by Steve Hepner, the passionate baritone of the successful barbershop quartet Latest Edition at Berlin's John F. Kennedy School, Steve influenced the singers with his love for distinctive barbershop sounds. In 2023, Melissa Wiltzius took over the chorus. Already as a high school student, the American from Wisconsin was fascinated by her school's barbershop programme. She found her musical mentor in Steven Hepner in Berlin and, after years as a singer in quartets and with the WiB, took over the leadership: once barbershop, always barbershop!
