Voices from the association

Team Diversity & Inclusion

Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries regarding diversity & inclusion. We would like to briefly introduce ourselves so that you can learn about the various topics we cover.

I am committed to ensuring that LGBTTIAQ+ individuals experience greater acceptance and integration within our association and our ensembles. No one should feel belittled or uncomfortable in any way because of their sexual identity or orientation. I am gay myself and am interested in all LGBTTIAQ+ issues. Please feel free to approach me about any of these topics.

As a person of colour and a foreigner in Germany, I have unfortunately had a few bad experiences with racism. Of course, I would like such experiences to remain outside our association, but I know that BinG! members may also experience racism and/or xenophobia in their choruses and quartets. I am happy to discuss these issues.

As a German of Turkish origin and with our quartet, I try to make BinG! a little more colourful. I hope that no BinG! member ever feels different or disadvantaged when singing or performing.
Please feel free to talk to me if you feel unfairly treated or uncomfortable at BinG! I am also always open to ideas for bringing even more nationalities and cultures together in our association in the future.

I am interested in the topic of appreciation and would like to work towards ensuring that all BinG! members feel valued in their ensembles and within the association – just as they are. I am happy to discuss anything related to this topic.

I grew old with barbershop (but that's exactly why I stayed young at heart). I am particularly interested in the changes that come upon us all with age and how we can manage to stay active for as long as possible despite them.

The area of impairment/disability and everything associated with it has been my focus for many years – both privately and professionally. I find the definition of disability as an individual characteristic to be a questionable concept. I understand disability as the hindrance of participation by society.
I am also interested in the topics of ethnicity and racism. I have some experience in this area, partly through my Afro-German children, but no professional expertise.
I am happy to discuss both topics.

As a chorus director and quartet singer, I am involved in selecting appropriate songs. Unfortunately, some of our favourite songs and tags were written during the era of slavery and racial segregation. The image of women was also different back then than it is today. That is why not all barbershop arrangements are still appropriate today.
I am happy to discuss topics such as inclusive song selection and concert design, and how to address these topics in your groups.
